Hearing Health Australia

Helping Australians Reconnect

OR

our mission

To actively raise awareness of hearing health issues across the community and change lives along the way.

We intend to achieve this by conducting neighborhood hearing checks, providing information on hearing loss and helping to identify no out of pocket expense treatment entitlements.

Passionate About Hearing Health

We are a team that is passionate about reconnecting people by helping them hear better.

Hearing loss is not well understood, and treatment is often delayed by many years. Worryingly, untreated hearing loss carries some serious health risks which are largely unknown by those experiencing this condition.

Hearing Health Australia is determined to change this through our community-based activities.

While this program initially targeted men, as they are more likely to experience hearing loss and less likely to seek medical help, Hearing Health Australia now focuses on helping anyone in the household who may be experiencing hearing loss.

So please take advantage of our free community-based activities if you, a loved one, or someone you know is experiencing hearing loss.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

We believe in helping as many people as we can receive
Hearing Loss treatment by removing the cost barrier involved in obtaining this treatment

About Hearing Loss

Any form of damage to the inner ear that reduces the quality of sound the ear can detect is a form of hearing damage. Common causes include congenital conditions, diseases, infections, and prolonged exposure to high-noise environments.

Hearing loss affects a significant portion of the population, especially as they age. For instance, approximately 73% of Australians over 70 have mild to severe hearing loss, a condition that tends to intensify with age. This issue is especially prevalent in nursing homes, where as many as 85% of residents typically have hearing impairment.

While men are more likely to experience hearing loss, primarily due to greater exposure to workplace noise, the prevalence gap between men and women narrows with advancing age. It is estimated that 60% of adults with hearing loss are male, with many of them being of working age (15 to 64 years). However, both genders face similar challenges and consequences as a result of untreated hearing loss.

Depression

is common in those
who no longer feel able
or confident in their
communication

Social Isolation

often results in
extended periods of
isolation and a reduced
chance of seeking help

Auditory Deprivation

can make processing and
interpretation hard for the deaf
and hearing impaired even after
a hearing aid is fitted

Dementia

can result from hearing
disorders and this is thought
to be due to reduced
mental stimulation
